LOUTRANS (PTY) LTD, a well-known road freight transport business in Harrismith, recently established HDT Academy after they realised there was an urgent need for quality skill development for freight drivers. They see education as “a matter of the heart” and believe in empowering the stakeholders within their business and the wider economy. Nikè Bekker head of HDT Academy, also has a tangible passion for people, education and making a difference. The Academy aims to serve the transport sector by offering quality courses that focus on Safety and Defensive Driving.

The HDT Academy’s heavy-duty truck training program will develop and maintain higher standards for freight drivers in the industry. Learners will be challenged, educated, and guided on multiple aspects, such as personal development, safety, mechanical and technical skills in addition to defensive and economic driving.

During our initial meeting with the Loutrans and HDT Academy team, we realised that the initiative had enormous potential. Thus, Training Portal assisted HDT Academy to obtain accreditation from the QCTO and then facilitated the initial operational set-up so they could begin their journey as an accredited training provider. 

We believe that HDT Academy will add significant value to the transport industry by providing much-needed sector-specific training. We wish Nikè and her team all the best with their new venture and believe that it will go from strength to strength.
