We have always believed in quality skills transfer and creating employment opportunities for learners. During August 2020 we launched our new tutor programme. A need was identified for additional learner assistance and handholding in our classrooms as well as online. To fulfil this role, we decided to reward our top performing learners by appointing them as tutors. In theory we reasoned that our top learners would know the subject matter well, will be used to our online system and will relate to the current learners. We knew that this will be a pilot project and were not entirely sure what the results would be.
We are, however, delighted to report that our tutor programme has been a huge success. Our tutors have blossomed in their new role and our skills transfer to learners have been greatly improved. The tutors felt that they received validation for hard work during their studies and the establishment of the tutor programme motivated all learners to work hard to make a success of their studies in order to also come in contention for the tutor programme. We have even invested in our top tutors by enrolling them to become assessors in their own right.
